Honda and Acura took home the top prizes in Edmunds.com's second annual Best Retained Value® Awards, which recognize the brands and new car models that have the highest projected residual value after five years, expressed as a percentage of their True Market Value® (TMV®) when sold new.
Honda won the 2012 brand award for non-luxury makes for the second consecutive year, while Acura took home the luxury brand award for the first time. Edmunds.com found that Honda's average projected retained value after five years is 47.9%, while Acura's average projected retained value is 44.6%. In each case, the percentage is based on the average five-year retained value of the carmaker's 2012 models that launched prior to the end of 2011.
"Honda has long had a reputation for dependable used vehicles, and that is reflected in today's booming used car market, " said Joe Spina, Director of Remarketing at Edmunds.com. "And with Acura beating out all other luxury brands, Honda's family of vehicles continues to expand the company's status as one of the best values available to car buyers today. "

Acura Unveils Flagship RLX Concept
Acura today held the world debut of the Acura RLX Concept at the New York International Auto Show, providing luxury buyers with a first look at the design and engineering direction for its all-new Acura RLX flagship sedan, slated for launch at the beginning of 2013.
The RLX Concept employs an extraordinary array of new Acura technologies, including the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system, in combination with sophisticated styling and smart packaging to deliver an entirely new level of performance, sophistication and comfort.
Utilizing highly efficient packaging, the RLX Concept delivers the interior space of a large luxury sedan with the footprint and agility of a midsize luxury sedan. The RLX Concept's all-new 3.5L direct-injected VTEC® V-6 engine and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system, with three electric motors, combine to generate more than 370-horsepower, and are paired with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) and lightweight body to deliver V-8 acceleration with four-cylinder fuel economy—with an estimated EPA (city/highway/combined) rating of 30/30/30 mpg.
"We have created a true luxury sedan based on our Acura DNA," said American Honda president & CEO, Tetsuo Iwamura. "This means achieving advanced performance through engineering efficiency to create a unique synergy between the vehicle and its driver. Inside and out, on the open road or city streets, the sophisticated and elegant Acura RLX will offer a level of connectivity, comfort and advanced performance demanded by today's luxury buyers."
Acura also announced that the production RLX will be offered in a 310-horsepower, front-wheel-drive version, which will also deliver superior handling performance through the application of another new Acura technology— Precision All Wheel Steer™.

Tony Stark trades his Audi for mystery Acura in The Avengers
Next summer, when The Avengers opens to packed multiplexes, playboy billionaire Tony Stark will be rolling in a trick new ride. After driving an Audi R8 in the two Iron Man features, Stark apparently switches to a never-before-seen Acura sports car.
There’s a very good reason for this.
Movie sponsorship deals notwithstanding, Stark and his fellow superhero companions starring in The Avengers have been called together by the government agency S.H.I.E.L.D. And S.H.I.E.L.D agents, who first appeared in the recent Thor and Captain America films, all drive Acuras.
It has been reported that Acura spokesman Gary Robinson has said, "As you may know, Acura has been in the Marvel Comics Universe films as the official car of their fictional law enforcement agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. That relationship continues for The Avengers. The open-top sports car that was photographed yesterday is a one-off, fictional car that was made just for the movie and will not be produced.
That said, as you may also know, our CEO has said publicly that we are studying the development of a new sportscar, but we can't say any more about it at this time."
Mr. Robinson also said that he's unable to tell us any specifics about the use of the car in the film beyond what's suggested in the photos, and that Acura itself won't know the full extent of the car's appearance in The Avengers until the film's release next spring.
